"abandoned children"
| |
I am an avid reader...lately I have read several books in which the main character, due to divorce, etc. lost contact with one or more of their parents since they were children. All of a sudden, after 10, 15, 20 years a parent makes contact. Almost immediately the character renews contact, forgives all, etc. etc. I get so angry at this. Being abandoned for many years is not so easily "fixable". It may be expedient for the purposes of plot, character developement, etc. but is demeans the pain, the emotional scarring, the changes to the characters personality. I wish authors would be more realistic about how this plays out in real life. |
